I was born in Mariupol shortly after the Second World War. For decades, I worked as a construction engineer in heavy machinery, raised two children, and planned to spend the rest of my life in my city – for my grandchildren, my friends, and the peace I once knew.
The war shattered everything. I still cannot understand why I had to starve, why I had to flee in fear, why I lost my son, my sister, my home, and the quiet life I had built. I continue living with my family, but the feeling of home is gone – replaced by pain and emptiness.
To keep going, I stay active: I cook with joy, help my daughter, support friends who were forced to flee, and those who remained in Ukraine. My heart stays with my country. I wait for victory.
